Coast regional police commander Ali Nuno has issued a stern warning to politicians against using criminal gangs ("goons"), financing political violence, or disrupting peace in the region.
Nuno has threatened to withdraw state-provided security details of politicians who facilitate violence, arrest the perpetrators. and prosecute any political leaders found interfering with security.
He cautioned politicians against politicizing security matters, saying such statements could undermine public confidence and harm the region's economy.
While addressing journalists from the Coast regional police headquarters today, Nuno confirmed police had recovered illicit drugs worth over 151 million within a span of four months Nuno noted that one suspect was recently arrested at Moi international airport on his way to Dubai seizing drugs worth ksh.1.5 million.
The suspect had swallowed 44 pellets of heroin with an estimated street value of KSh1.5 million.
The police commander said the haul confisiticated since May this year included 37,282 gram of heroin valued at Ksh. 111,846,000, 10, 747.84 kilograms of bhang valued at ksh. 32, 243,520, 1,336 grams of cocaine worth Ksh.5,344,000 and 204.0 grams of methamphetamine worth 1,632,000.
Nuno further disclosed that police had arrested 27 suspects, including five suspected drug barons and 12 drug couriers, as part of the ongoing crackdown on narcotics drugs in the region.
