Court Allows Police to Hold Terror Suspect For 14 More Days.

The senior resident Magistrate’s court in Mombasa on Tuesday ordered an additional 14 days of detention for a suspect arraigned over terrorism related charges. 

Ramadhan Mohammed Hassan, who appeared before senior resident Magistrate David Odhiambo, is suspected to be an Al Shabaab operative in Somalia and Tanzania.

The suspect was on Friday, March 28, arrested by detectives drawn from the anti-terror unit in Kichangi area of Nyali, in Mombasa county

According to an affadvit sworn by police constable Alfred Kipchumba, the suspect is a member of a terrorist group, Al Shabaab and that at the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of articles connected with the commission of a terrorist act.

“Preliminary investigation indicate that the respondent was previously arrested in the year 2017 for the ofence of being a member of a terrorist group and being in possession of articles connected with the commission of a terrorist Act, contrary to section 30 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2012,” stated Kipchumba.

That the suspect had been charged before the Shanzu Law Courts, with several ofences related to terrorism and was convicted to two years sentence under probation.

Odhiambo allowed the application and ordered the suspect to be detained for 14 more days at the Mombasa police station to enable police complete investigations.
